Students are expected to be present and on time to all classes. Parent/student conferences will be scheduled with the principal if students repeatedly miss classes. In these cases, alternative means to completing the student’s high school education will be considered.
Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent for the day, please call the Attendance Office as soon as possible to report the absence. Provide the student's last and first name, date of attendance to be updated, and reason for the absence.
Alternatively, please email the attendance office at avc-attendance@asd20.org.
As soon as the attendance office receives a call, the attendance status of your student is updated in Infinite Campus. Log in to Infinite Campus to see these updates.
If your student was marked absent but says they were in class, have your student speak with their teacher about the discrepancy and ask that the teacher contact the attendance office to update the students attendance record.
Pre-arranged Absences
All pre-arranged absences must be approved by the principal at least one (1) week in advance of the absence. If a student anticipates that he or she will miss school, the student should obtain a pre-arranged absence form from the attendance clerk. The principal will take into consideration planner points, attendance and academic standing when considering pre-arranged absence.
Student Check-Out
If you know you are going to check out your student from school early due to an appointment or other need, please notify us as early as possible. If you call in the morning, we can more easily have the student ready to be picked up at the appropriate time. You can reach the attendance office at 719-234-6200. Provide the student's last and first name, and the date, time and reason for the absence.
Parents/Guardians do not need to come into the building for pick-up/drop-off of students. Simply call or email the attendance office with the above information and your request will be processed.
Only parents/guardians may authorize a student release and will need to call ahead of time. Anyone listed in your Infinite Campus Emergency Contacts may pick up your student but cannot excuse the absence. Please make certain your Infinite Campus information is accurate. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the attendance office.
